On Wednesday April 30th the Northwest Clean Air Agency will be holding a public hearing on a Clean Air Permit for Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery in Anacortes, WA. Join Rising Tide Seattle, 350 Seattle, Rising Tide Bellingham and other local community groups as we rally against the monstrous expansion of fossil fuels in our region – that Shell is helping to drive – and then flood the Northwest Clean Air Agency hearing with comments asking for strong regulation of emissions from this refinery! For the past five years the refinery has been operating without a permit to control its air emissions. Currently their are no restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions from Shell’s refinery, which is one of the largest single sources of emissions in the State. We’ll be telling the Northwest Clean Air Agency to take a strong stance in regulating greenhouse gases from facilities like Shell’s Refinery. In addition to air emissions, Shell’s Puget Sound Refinery is proposing to take Bakken Crude by bringing more dangerous explosive trains through Northwest Communities. And proposals have been floated to increase refining of Canadian tar sands, by expanding Kinder-Morgan’s tar sands pipeline that runs from Alberta – Burnaby – Anacortes. The people of the Puget Sound are a thin green line standing against massive increases in fossil fuel extraction, shipping and burning. Lets stand together and stand strong for clean air, safe communities and livable climate! For those coming from Seattle and other points far away we have a Ride-Share board! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ao28L3yGxqThdGZwT1h6VzBHREMxQnVkaDBfeXRHMGc&usp=sharing
