Join us for the opening of our newest exhibit. Each summer, Kirkland Arts Center Gallery hosts the KAC Artists' Exhibition (formerly the KAC Members' Exhibition) to showcase the creativity and talent of KAC's community of artists. This year, the juror for the 2014 KAC Artists' Exhibition, Michael Monroe, has selected 38 pieces from 38 local artists in a variety of media. Michael will reveal his top two juror awards and visitors will vote on the People's Choice Award. Drinks and light snacks will be served.

Gender Personal is the work of Seattle artist Jacqui Beck, whose paintings have been exhibited in dozens of shows, and who was awarded first place in the 2013 “Women Painters of Washington, Finale!” exhibit. This project was inspired by Jacqui’s transgender son. “When Finnbar came out three years ago, my feelings were confusing and messy. I used my art and writing to explore this overwhelming situation,” writes Beck. She also interviewed eight gender-variant individuals. Inspired by their bold self-examination, she embarked on an inward journey producing the paintings and poems that, along with photos and interview excerpts, form the basis of this exhibit. In addition to the ongoing exhibit, Kirkland Arts Center will host a presentation on June 7th where Beck will talk about her project, accompanied by slides and audio recordings. Special guests will participate in a discussion of gender variance, followed by Q&A and refreshments. This is a free event you won’t want to miss!
