Washington's first eight charter schools -- with the first set to open in September 2014 -- will add to the estimated 2.1 million students in public charter schools nationwide. The Washington Policy Center's education breakfast will feature leaders of these new schools and an overview of their programs. Currently, a total of seven schools have been approved in the Seattle-Tacoma area, with the eighth in Spokane. Seattle's First Place Scholars -- an elementary school for traumatized and homeless children -- is set to become Washington's first charter school this fall. Breakfast attendees will also learn about ongoing education reform and have the opportunity to ask questions at this interactive event. Presented by: Washington Policy Center. Tickets: $10 WPC Young Professionals, $20 WPC supporters, and $25 general admission. Doors open: 7 a.m. Learn more: Read a policy brief on charter schools.
