http://www.seattle.gov/transportation/wct.htm#dac From pedestrians to cyclists, daily commuters to tourists, everybody should feel comfortable walking and biking from Fremont to South Lake Union. Thanks to the efforts of Cascade Bicycle Club members and our city leaders, we’ll soon have a safe, orderly route through the Westlake Corridor. Next week is the most important meeting to date for the Westlake Protected Bike Lane: the open house to hear from the public. We need to send a strong message that we support a safe, flat route that provides access to businesses by bicycle. Westlake Protected Bike Lane Open House Wednesday, May 21, 5:30-8:00 p.m. Fremont Studios, 155 N 35th St Our preferred route for the protected bike lane is along the existing trail/sidewalk on the eastern edge of the parking lot. This route provides bicyclists access to businesses, minimizes the loss of car parking and eliminates the potential for high-speed collisions with cars turning into the parking lot. The number one concern from businesses and our friends in the live-aboard community is reduced parking, so we’re asking for a plan that minimizes the loss of parking and provides better parking management. The design process for the Westlake Protected Bike Lane keeps moving forward. Mayor Murray’s design advisory committee meets every two weeks, providing stakeholder feedback into this project. But the most important opinion for the design and routing isn’t Cascade’s or the design advisory committee’s. It’s yours. Last October more than 300 people showed up in support. Next Wednesday, let’s pack Fremont Studios with 500+ people. Sincerely, Thomas Goldstein Policy & Government Affairs Director Cascade Bicycle Club For that protected multiuse trail.
