Spokes for Folks is a bike ride to raise money for seniors in independent housing. It will feature riders of all ages. After the bike ride there will be live music, entertainers and a gourmet burger bar at the Tukwila Community Center. Riders under 12 are $5. Please come help us raise awareness and support for seniors! Get a 50% discount through Sept. 7 – code is: SHAG2014 More details: Since 1988, SHAG has been a substantial provider of affordable housing to seniors across Washington State. To mark our 25-year milestone, we kicked off a new SHAG tradition – an annual Spokes for Folks bike ride. We chose a bike ride as we think it is representative of our goal of health, wellness and community for all of our residents. Spokes for Folks offers a 40 mile round trip, an 8 mile round trip, and an All-Ages Friendly half-mile course. Along each option riders enjoy Celebration Stations with refreshments, bathroom breaks and a cheering support team. At the finish line, all riders are invited to attend a community celebration with live music, activities, entertainers, a beer garden and great food! Three route choices – totaling 40 miles, 8 miles or ½ – offer something for every rider! 40 mile loop rides South along the Interurban Trail to the town of Pacific. 8 mile loop rides meanders along the Duwamish Waterway to Starfire Soccer Fields. Those paths we have chosen have a few short spots along roads – yet we will have our enthusiastic volunteers and great signage out on the course to guide and cheer you on. Celebration Stations mark the turn-around points for our 8 mile at Starfire and 40 mile at Pacific locations – with refreshments and restrooms. ½ mile loop rides along Duwamish Waterway, up around the baseball fields and back to the start point without crossing a single road. This loop is a nice wide, paved, low incline-decline route fun and safe for all ages and rider levels. All 3 options are loop courses, returning to the start point for ease of parking.
