SDOT’s project team has been working to narrow the range of options for the Northgate Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge (over I-5) in the last several months. At the open house we held in June there were 3 types of bridges under consideration and 6 different pairs of “landing points” for the bridge on the east and west sides. At this point we have settled on a single pair of landing points and two possible bridge types. The landing points are both (roughly) in the vicinity of 100th Street. On the west side, this is between the North Seattle College (to the south) and the Bartonwood Preserve (to the north). On the east side, 100th Street is between the existing King County Metro Transit Facility (to the south) and the planned Sound Transit North Link Station (to the north). The landing point will actually be on the west side of 1st Avenue NE, but there will also be a direct connection from the approach ramp into the station over 1st Avenue NE. You are invited to attend a briefing on the options we considered and how the selection criteria established earlier were used to narrow them. This is also an opportunity to share questions or ideas you may have that would help inform our next steps and the design work in 2015. This is a very exciting project, largely brought about through the active participation of Northgate’s citizens and advocates. We hope that you are able to join us in making this project everything that it should be.
